Quick Start Guide

Intelligent HART Gateway

No documentation or software is shipped with the product — everything is on the device itself. Updates download automatically when the device has internet access.

Getting started

  1. To get started you will need a 24 V DC power supply, an Ethernet RJ45 cable and a Windows PC.
  2. Connect the power supply and your HART loop as shown on the connection diagram on the side of the module.
  3. Connect the Ethernet cable between the module and your network switch, or directly to your PC. The gateway uses DHCP by default.
  4. Apply power and wait for the RUN LED on the front panel to come on solid green.
  5. On your PC, install HG1Discover from support.lawnswoodtechnology.com. If you already have it, run it and let it check for updates. No administrator rights are required. The same page has HG1VspManager (virtual COM ports for PACTware and FieldCare) and additional documentation.
  6. Choose the network your gateway is connected to from the drop-down list. If your PC has more than one adapter, pick the one your Ethernet cable is in. Then press Scan. Your gateway appears in the list — match it to the Host name printed on the label on the side of the module.
    • Not using Windows? Look for a hostname beginning hg1v4- in your router's connected-clients list, or connect the module directly to your PC and browse to the address printed on its label, in the form 169.254.x.x — every gateway has its own. If that page does not load, see Reaching the Web Interface in the user guide.
  7. Update the firmware before you configure anything. With your gateway selected, press Update. If a newer version is offered, install it and wait for the module to restart. If it reports the gateway is already up to date, carry straight on.
  8. Double-click your gateway in the list — its web interface opens in your browser. Configure the product from there.
  9. Use the on-device Help menu and Downloads button for the full user guide.
  10. For further assistance, raise a support ticket at support.lawnswoodtechnology.com. Quote the serial number printed on the label on the side of the module.
